Causes of addiction

Causes of addiction

Before we talk of the possible causes of addiction, we have to start by saying that addiction is a disease of a rather complex nature and bio-psycho-social. In other words, we are saying that the causes that cause a person to become addicted to any type of substances, etc. are multiple and can interact in a complex way, which gets to produce an addictive disorder. If we talk about its etiology is not linear, systematic and multi-function make it much more difficult to understand with a simple linear or vision of a possible “cause and effect”

This is very important when carrying out a treatment to treat this type of disorders, because each person is different and show different shades to cope with the problem, so, it is necessary to identify each of the cases and in this way make a more comprehensive survey of the personal and family history of the patient before making a final diagnosis.

It is for this reason that our rehabilitation center requires as much information as possible in patients admitted for the first time at the center, because all the information and details that give patients and their families, will be vital to the time to start planning the type of personalized treatment that the patient needs to treat their addiction.

Much of the genetic factors, psychological and personality, biological, socio-cultural and family are merged into a single interaction multisystem disease, thus creating the first predisposition of the individual, who then with exposure to the desencadenante factor, which in this arena are:

  1. The psychotropic substances.
  2. Game.
  3. Sex.
  4. Food.
  5. Relationships.
  6. Alcohol.
  7. Etc.

It evolves toward the reconciliation of this pathological process to which all we call “addiction”. Many studies conducted with respect to this disease show that addiction to alcohol is much more common in families of alcoholics, that in the relatives of people who have tried a drop of alcohol.

With this we are saying that the alcoholic parents who have children, these children show a likelihood 405 times more likely to develop this disorder and potential alcoholics.

We must also mention that there are other factors that play a very important role in this issue with respect to the development of addiction and one of these factors is the personality, taking into account, of course, some of its features, such as low tolerance to frustration and difficulty dealing with his own feelings.
